Sending Up a Prayer ...
is a hopeful collection that speaks of God in one’s daily life. Smith’s warm and pleasing voice is soothing to listen to. When I listen to this CD, it’s like she’s in the room with me, sharing her most intimate thoughts. I can feel the compassion she feels as she sings about the homeless woman living in a box, and the abused child huddled in a darkened room in the opening track, “If We Choose to Love.” I can sense the care of the friend taking care of her during an illness in “You Remind Me of Jesus.” And my heart instantly yearns for Jesus as Smith sings about “Spending Time Adoring You.” In “Your Love Will Never End,” included on the Catholic Music 2008 compilation, Smith describes a changing world to illustrate how our Lord’s love will never end. I appreciate the way she uses mundane references such as her “comfy couch and devoted dog,” things she is attached to, and things that will pass away, to illustrate how God’s love will always be there. These are small examples, but one that any person can relate to.

is like cuddling up in your favorite bathrobe on a cold night with a bowl of your favorite comfort food. Through its quiet, warm and sensitive delivery, you are comforted and quietly challenged to live the life of the Gospel.
